  • The Space Coast Connect ZERO-K event will be held on May 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Carib Brewery in Cape Canaveral — it will benefit the Brevard Humane Society by collecting donations for its animals.  Space Coast Daily
  • Niki’s Restaurant, a beloved eatery at 6947 N. Wickham Road in Suntree, will close its doors on May 31 after serving the community for 35 years. Owners Floyd and Audrey Bradley plan to retire, and loyal customers remember its Greek comfort food and family-friendly service—marking the end of an era.  Florida Today

CRIME NEWS

  • Juan Espinosa was clocked at 118 MPH on I-95 early Sunday at 2:20 a.m. when deputies smelled alcohol and discovered his wife in the front seat with his 1-year-old and 8-year-old sleeping in the back, leading to his arrest for DUI and child neglect.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 19, Timothy 'Chaz' Stevens, founder of the Church of Satanology and Perpetual Soirée, emailed Brevard Public Schools asking to hang religious banners at five high schools, citing an existing banner at Palm Bay High as a precedent+ the school board has not yet commented on his request.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast received $750,000 in Department of Defense funds and an additional $82,500 in matching state funds to start a Phase 2 Feasibility Study on aging wastewater systems at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Brevard County. Brevard County’s Utility Services Department will lead the study — it will check flow projections, set water quality goals, and determine treatment options to support military operations and protect the Indian River Lagoon.  Space Coast Daily
  • Volunteer fire departments on the Space Coast faced critical staffing shortages that led Indian Harbour Beach to consider hiring its first full-time firefighters in over 50 years—Fire Chief David Lewis said the city also hired part-time maintenance staff to manage daily operations as volunteer numbers dropped due to tougher training and waning interest.  FOX 35 Orlando
