- ➤ The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast received $750,000 in Department of Defense funds and an additional $82,500 in matching state funds to start a Phase 2 Feasibility Study on aging wastewater systems at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Brevard County. Brevard County’s Utility Services Department will lead the study — it will check flow projections, set water quality goals, and determine treatment options to support military operations and protect the Indian River Lagoon. - ➤ Volunteer fire departments on the Space Coast faced critical staffing shortages that led Indian Harbour Beach to consider hiring its first full-time firefighters in over 50 years—Fire Chief David Lewis said the city also hired part-time maintenance staff to manage daily operations as volunteer numbers dropped due to tougher training and waning interest.
