  • The sheriff’s office is hosting Juney’s Heavenly Light Fest starting tonight at 855 Camp Road in Cocoa. Families can enjoy thousands of Christmas lights, festive displays and a behind-the-scenes look at emergency services for a $10 carload fee.  Space Coast Daily
  • On Dec. 10, the Community Foundation for Brevard Board of Directors awarded The Philanthropist 2025 honor to John K. Roach at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, recognizing his decades of community leadership and generous contributions since moving to Brevard in 1973.  Florida Today

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 carrying 29 Starlink satellites at 1:59 p.m. today from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, with a backup window until 5:59 p.m. & weather over 95% favorable, and the booster is set to land on a drone ship in the Atlantic, avoiding sonic booms.  Florida Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Chesapeake Energy and Berkshire Hathaway Energy have proposed building a new liquid natural gas facility at Port Canaveral to fuel cruise ships and rockets. The project — which could create up to 100 jobs — awaits Port staff's public review in January for potential completion in 2029.  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brevard Public Schools edited a board meeting recording on Dec. 9 for a second time to remove a comment quoting board member Gene Trent's profanity about transparency & a First Amendment expert warned the move may violate Florida’s Sunshine Laws.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Geminid meteor shower will peak between Saturday, Dec. 13 & Sunday, Dec. 14, offering Palm Bay residents a chance to see bright, colorful meteors under clear skies on the second night. Viewers are advised to find a dark spot away from city lights.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Berny Jacques filed a bill on Dec. 10 that would limit non-citizen students at each public college to 10% of the student body and remove exceptions for DACA recipients, asylum seekers, and trafficking victims, arguing colleges should serve Floridians first.  Florida Today
  • Florida law allows parking in front of a stranger’s house as long as drivers do not block driveways, hydrants, mailboxes or crosswalks, but property owners or businesses may tow vehicles if parked improperly. The 2024 law also restricts HOA parking rules, so check posted signs & avoid fines.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hudson River Foods recalled 12-ounce packages of Doughy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough sold in 15 states, including Florida, after the FDA flagged potential salmonella risk. Consumers should check products with a best-by date of July 4 as the recall remains in effect.  Florida Today
