  • Merritt Island resident Justin Bogart—board member at the Central Brevard Sharing Center—started The Good Shepherd BBQ to help feed local families, serving food to 150 kids and planning to distribute smoked pork through a food pantry before Thanksgiving. He raised funds via a GoFundMe campaign to buy a large smoker and hopes to expand his ministry with continued community donations.  Florida Today
  • Orlando Berdecia, a retired officer from Puerto Rico, joined Palm Bay VCOP in August 2024 where he patrols neighborhoods, supports traffic and emergency calls, and helps with fleet maintenance—continuing his lifelong commitment to community service. He works alongside a partner each week and also serves on the call-out team for off-duty emergencies.  Space Coast Daily

  • Brevard County’s first Whole Foods Market opened November 6 in Viera at 2035 Viera Blvd—offering organic and natural products from over 450 Florida suppliers with sections for sushi, salads, and meat. Trader Joe’s is expected to open later this year at Avenue Viera.  Florida Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • FLORIDA TODAY photographer Craig Bailey took a unique photo of gases lighting up the sky after a SpaceX Falcon 9 launched on Nov. 2 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station — his shot shows patterns in the air that are rarely seen.  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Disney entertainment mentors will guide Endeavour Elementary School students as they put on their first production of 101 Dalmatians — part of the Discover Your Destiny program — which is designed to spark creativity in young performers. The school event will come before the Disney Destiny makes its maiden voyage on November 20 from Port Everglades.  Space Coast Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Merritt Island beat South Walton in four sets on Nov. 7 and advanced to the Class 4A state championship. The Mustangs will face the winner of the Lemon Bay/North Broward Prep game today at 4 p.m. at Polk State College — a state championship match that draws local attention.  Florida Today
