  • A federal government shutdown has halted November SNAP benefits, causing food pantries on the Space Coast to see inquiries jump from 3,000 to 10,000 in a week — food assistance groups like Second Harvest and Matthew’s Hope say they will need ongoing community help until benefits resume.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Palm Bay face flood warnings as supermoon's king tides may cause water levels to rise—officials advise watching local advisories and staying alert.  Florida Today
  • The St. Johns River Water Management District has reinstated once-a-week watering restrictions for Brevard and 17 counties after daylight saving time ended on November 2 because cooler weather means lawns need less water. Homes with odd-numbered addresses water on Saturday, even-numbered on Sunday and nonresidential properties on Tuesday, and watering is not allowed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—a measure to save water and reduce waste.  Florida Today

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Kristine Zonka to the Eastern Florida State College Board of Trustees and reappointed Ronald Howse for another four-year term to help guide the college's future.   • Residents in Brevard County will join the Out of the Darkness Walk Saturday, Nov. 8 at Wickham Park (2500 Parkway Drive) in Melbourne to support suicide prevention efforts.  Florida Today
