COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. David’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Cocoa Beach will host its 14th Annual Bid or Buy Auction from October 24 to 26, with kickoff events featuring complimentary wine and appetizers on Friday, free drinks on Saturday, and a Sunday auction held during church services. The three-day event will offer 100 baskets and 100 gift certificates, and all proceeds will support local charities (Family Promise, The Salvation Army, Nana’s House, and others).  Space Coast Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SpaceX will launch two SpainSat NG satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket tonight from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral after a delay from Wednesday, with liftoff scheduled no earlier than 9:30 p.m. and backup opportunities until 1:30 a.m. Oct 24. The rocket will travel due east while the satellites provide X-band and military Ka-band communications for European government and military users + the booster will be expended on its 22nd and final flight.  Florida Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Garcia family's Halloween display at Millbrook Manor (located at 7535 Millbrook Ave in Viera) features animatronics, music, smoke, lights, and lasers and is set to provide a spooky treat for local visitors (a highlight of the season).  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida Tech officials launched a campus master plan page that shows artist renderings of future buildings including a pedestrian bridge, a new business college building, and a welcome center to support a 27% rise in enrollment+construction is underway on the $96.1M Crimson Crossing residence hall, which will add 556 beds and open Aug. 26 to ease housing shortages.  Florida Today
  • Brevard Public Schools were honored today at the Crimeline Annual Awards meeting with two awards for their SpeakOut Hotline program (a tool that lets students report concerns anonymously) and district officials and law enforcement were praised for close teamwork (boosting school safety).  Space Coast Daily
  • Westside Elementary School in Palm Bay holds a groundbreaking ceremony today at 8 a.m. at 2175 Degroodt Road SW as it starts a campus expansion to add 10 new classrooms, a STEM lab, an Exceptional Student Education Resource Room, and a professional learning space—district leaders say the project will improve learning for students and support ongoing teacher development.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Melissa — currently in the central Caribbean — is forecast to rapidly intensify into a Category 4 hurricane by late this weekend or early next week. Florida faces a low chance of a direct hit — only high waves and rip currents are expected — but residents should stay alert as the storm’s unpredictable path unfolds.  Florida Today

  • CNBC has named Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo to its 2025 Financial Advisor 100 list, recognizing the firm as one of America’s top financial advisory teams. The Palm Bay firm—led by Dan Moisand and DJ Hunt—has also been featured in Forbes rankings for the third consecutive year.  Florida Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team released its 2025-26 schedule. The Titans will open in Jacksonville on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. against USC Salkehatchie and play the Region 8 Tournament—starting March 12 at Northwest Florida State College.  Space Coast Daily
  • More than 20 FHSAA football district championship games will be played in Week 10 — key matchups include Evans at Oviedo and West Orange at Ocoee, along with rematches like St. Thomas Aquinas at American Heritage and IMG vs East St. Louis.
