  • Papa Vito’s co-owner Shiloh Edelman died on Oct.6, leaving the local community in shock with over 700 people at her funeral at East Coast Christian Center. Papa Vito’s now honors her memory—she supported many local causes—by selling pink shirts to help breast cancer survivors.  Florida Today

  • Cory Skeates, who was a leader at Accelerate Brevard, was named president and CEO of the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce today — officials said he has a strong record in helping local businesses grow.   • Jeff Arnold, owner of 3LP Roofing, said fraudulent online reviews hurt his business and left his office manager in tears—these reviews did not come from real customers and appear to be part of a scam.  FOX 35 Orlando

  • The Historic Green Gables home is turning its grounds into Foggy Bluff Holiday Haunts for Halloween starting today with a haunted trail full of ghosts, scary creatures, twisted elves, and vampire turkeys — tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for children under 10, with funds supporting restoration at 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd in Melbourne. The event will run on Oct.17-18, Oct.24-25, Oct.31, and Nov.1.  Florida Today

  • Brevard County School Board Member Matt Susin said on FOX 35’s Good Day Orlando that two recent incidents at Brevard Public Schools — one involving a man who was trespassed twice and another a generic bomb threat affecting over 40 school districts — raised concerns about school security.  FOX 35 Orlando

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic—one is moving toward the Caribbean where warm water may help it grow into a tropical storm later next week. Florida residents are urged to stay prepared as the system’s path and possible impacts remain uncertain.  Florida Today
  • Horses at Cocoa's Harmony Farms were stuck in barns after heavy rain flooded the area yesterday — the farm, which provides equine-assisted therapy, kept a pump running 24/7 to lower water levels so it can resume services.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Master gardener Sally Scalera relaunched her Soil Guardians program to help residents improve their yard soil and protect the Indian River Lagoon or the St. Johns River. Participants will pay a $50 fee for instructional videos and guidance — they must test their soil every year to track a 2% boost in organic matter that can hold extra water.  Florida Today
