ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute said that Florida’s 2025 sea turtle nesting season ended with record leatherback nests and high numbers of loggerhead and green turtles — Brevard beaches played a key role in the nesting efforts.  Space Coast Daily

  • Ken Odgen, a 71-year-old athlete from Indialantic, placed third in the 70+ division at the international CrossFit Games held in August in Cleveland.   • Florida’s Baker Act allows a 72-hour hold for people in a mental health crisis, during which patients at Circles of Care in Melbourne follow a strict daily routine that includes meals, medications, and therapy—every step is designed to ensure safety. After the hold, patients are discharged with a follow-up care plan and referrals to outpatient services although accessing long-term help remains a challenge.  Florida Today
