  • The Parker Foundation for Autism will hold its 8th Be A Buddy 5K and Family Health and Fitness Expo on Oct. 18 at the Field of Dreams in West Melbourne with an 8 a.m. 5K race, a 9 a.m. kids’ run, and an awards ceremony at 9:15 a.m. The event will also include sports, games, nonprofit booths, vendor displays and a trick-or-treat area—bringing together families to celebrate friendship and recycling used sneakers.  Space Coast Daily

  • Cory Skeates was appointed as President and CEO of the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce today after leading community development at Accelerate Brevard and other chambers—Raymond James welcomed new advisor Gregory Phelps, Canaveral Port Authority named Sarah E. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, about 100 parents and students took part in International Walk and Roll to School Day by traveling along sidewalks, pavement, and trails from Kelly Park to R.L. Stevenson School of the Arts on Merritt Island. The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization partnered with Brevard Public Schools to share safety tips such as making eye contact with drivers—ensuring students' safe passage.  Florida Today

  • Tracy Frampton and Claudia Holman at Florida Wildlife Hospital cared for an injured Great Horned Owl over a month—and released it on October 8 near where it was found in Canaveral Groves—and the bird had hurt soft tissue and could not fly.  Florida Today

  • Chauncey Gardner—Johnson, a standout at Cocoa High School, was signed by the Baltimore Ravens to their practice squad after his release from the Houston Texans a few weeks ago. He will join his fifth NFL team and is known for his versatile play on defense.  Space Coast Daily
