  • A Florida Tech professor named Howard Chen has led a study that shows how planet formation can cause some worlds to be born dry or with water. Chen’s research uses factors such as a planet’s distance from its star and the star’s activity to explain why telescopes may not pick up water on planets like TRAPPIST-1b — a finding that could shape future space research.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida has increased penalties for obscuring license plates—tinting or covering them now risks fines and jail time under a new law effective Oct 1. Drivers who use tinted covers, sprays or other devices to hide plates may face up to a second degree misdemeanor charge, with harsher penalties if used with other crimes.  Florida Today
