  • During a heavy rainstorm that began over the weekend and continues today, one pick-up truck left the eastbound lane on Pineda Causeway and plunged into the Indian River—its driver unharmed—while another truck ran off an exit ramp to US1 with no injuries reported.  Hometown News

  • SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will launch 28 Starlink satellites today from Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 7:10 a.m. ET & the booster is making its second flight after a previous Starlink mission with a planned landing on an Atlantic droneship.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brevard School Board revised its electronics ban—allowing high schoolers to use laptops and tablets with teacher approval while keeping cell phones banned during school hours. The board said the amendment will be voted on soon amid debates over equity and student well-being.  Florida Today
  • Brevard Public Schools will hold a ribbon-cutting at Heritage High School today from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. + The new Electricity Program offers hands-on training in wiring, circuit design and blueprint reading while giving students a chance to earn industry-recognized certifications.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A FAA draft study says Starship launches will close Playalinda Beach for up to 60½ days each year—public meetings on Aug. 28 and Sept. 3 will let community members offer comments while a petition with over 3,150 signatures asks to keep the beach open.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The family of Palm Bay teen Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim, now 16 and suffering from weight loss and scabies after being detained by Israeli forces since February, asked U.S. officials during a press conference on Aug.26 to secure his release from Ofer Prison — a request supported by human rights and faith organizations.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Parrish Healthcare expanded its partnership with Health First by selecting First Flight as its preferred air ambulance service, which will give North Brevard residents faster transport during emergencies. A meet—greet event on August 15 at Parrish Medical Center allowed care teams to tour the helicopter and meet the flight crew.  Space Coast Daily

  • Palm Bay ROUND13 Boxing Club and Boxlite Promotions Inc. will host the world championship boxing event Night of Prospect 5 at Tony Rosa Community Center on Sept. 6, featuring boxers from Brevard County and abroad. Weigh-ins will be held on Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m.—parking is free.  Florida Today
