  • The Space Coast Contracting Summit will take place October 21—22 at The Tides Collocated Club at Patrick Space Force Base and will gather defense industry leaders, government agencies, and innovators to discuss national security and contracting strategies.   • A West Melbourne mother accused of killing a 3-year-old had her jury trial begin on Wednesday — her boyfriend is set to be tried separately.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Deputies reported a man clung to a car's windshield as the driver sped through Cocoa after he and his girlfriend argued at a gas station—witnesses recorded the shocking scene on camera.  FOX 35 Orlando

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eastern Florida State College is now accepting applications for its Veterinary Assisting College Credit Certificate program which builds hands-on skills for animal care—applications are due by September 15 and classes start on January 12.  Space Coast Daily
  • Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas said that Melissa Calhoun, a Brevard teacher who used a student's chosen name without parental consent, deserved suspension and the board is discussing possibly overturning a decision that imposed a fine, ethics course, and probation. Brevard Superintendent Mark Rendell did not rehire Calhoun (the decision was made on Aug. 5) and state officials are now exploring rule changes (to better protect parental consent).  Florida Today

  • Today, SpaceX will launch the secret Space Force X-37B space plane from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A on a Falcon 9 rocket no earlier than 11:50 p.m., and eight minutes after liftoff the rocket's first stage will land at Cape Canaveral Landing Zone 2—causing a sonic boom across Brevard County while the mission tests new deep space technologies.  Florida Today
