- ➤ During Operation Southern Slow Down from July 14 to July 19, the Florida Highway Patrol issued more than 7,000 speeding tickets and made 87 DUI arrests—several drivers were also arrested for dangerous excessive speeding after exceeding 100 mph. Florida Today
- ➤ A 3-year-old boy drowned in a Palm Bay hotel pool after being left in the water for at least 20 minutes while his father (40) slept on the pool steps, reportedly making obscene gestures as hotel staff and paramedics tried to help; Sharef Omar Smith, an Atlanta man, now faces aggravated manslaughter of a child charges and is held without bond.
