  • A bicyclist was injured in a crash with a Ford F-150 on Babcock Street on July 22 at about 7:41 a.m.—Brevard County Fire Rescue took him to Holmes Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert while Melbourne Police investigate the incident.  Space Coast Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A recent online poll of local residents found that Wegmans is the most desired new retailer for the Space Coast—beating out other options such as The Cheesecake Factory, IKEA, and Buc-ee’s. The survey gathered votes on nine suggestions, offering Brevard County insight into which chain the community prefers as it considers future retail development.  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brevard County Libraries is running a Summer Reading Challenge for readers 17 and under and kids must log their reading minutes by July 29 to win prizes including an Astro Adventurer Kit & a Wings of Fortune Labubu. Winners will be contacted by July 31 and the contest is sponsored by the Eau Gallie Rotary Club to keep summer reading fun.  Hometown News

  • On Sunday, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office rescued a bottle-nosed dolphin — it had become tangled in crab trap ropes near A. Max Brewer Causeway and was freed with help from volunteer Leo Cross, the Hubbs Sea World Research Institute team, and Deputy Tanner Primmer so she could swim safely with her calf.  Space Coast Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brevard County commissioners approved a new contract on July 22nd that raised pay for fire rescue personnel—firefighters received a 21% increase, paramedics an 18% boost, and fire inspectors a 26% raise with retroactive pay dating back to October 2024. The decision aimed to help recruit and retain qualified emergency staff.  Space Coast Daily
  • The City Council of Palm Bay will hold a public hearing on Ordinance 2025-27 on August 7 at 6 p.m. at City Hall at 120 Malabar Road SE to consider new postemployment restrictions and standards for former city employees—residents may review the draft ordinance on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City Clerk’s office.  Space Coast Daily
