CULTURE NEWS

  • The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert featuring three works including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture—with audience members providing sound effects—at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Academy in north Melbourne. The program will also spotlight clarinetist Jennifer Royals in a featured clarinet concerto.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Brevard Public Schools Board will hold a Rule Development Workshop on July 29 at 1 p.m. at the Educational Services Facility in Viera to review revisions on student safety, cell phone use, and student conduct—followed by a public hearing on August 12 at 5:30 p.m. for community feedback on the proposed policy changes.  Space Coast Daily
  • Brevard Public Schools and Eastern Florida State College have launched a no-cost dual enrollment program that lets Cocoa High students begin hands-on welding training and earn technical certificates for future careers in local industries — the program covers tuition, equipment, and transportation and is expected to expand to other schools and trades.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A tropical system known as Invest 93L is moving across Florida today and is expected to bring heavy rain that may cause flash flooding through mid-week & rough surf along the beaches. Forecasts indicate the system may strengthen into a tropical depression later as it moves into the Gulf region & conditions become more favorable.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Palm Bay sailor Makayla Burgan was named NAVWAR Reserve Sailor of the Year after a three-day board in San Diego and later joined a national board event in Washington, D.C. from May 14-16—she works as a cybersecurity operations analyst and plans to help fellow sailors.  Hometown News
  • NASA's Crew-11 mission will launch on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft no earlier than July 31 from Kennedy Space Center after switching astronauts Fincke and Yui from Boeing's troubled Starliner test, and the agency will keep testing Starliner—checking helium leaks and thruster problems—before flying it again.  Florida Today
  • The St. Johns River Water District hosted a media tour at the Blue Cypress Conservation Area to show how levees and the S96C water control structure manage river levels and support flood protection—officials explained the system’s role in preparing for hurricane season.  Florida Today
