  • A FLORIDA TODAY poll shows that locals chose Playalinda Beach as Brevard’s top beach with 17.1 percent of the vote—Lori Wilson Park and Pelican Beach Park tied as runners-up while voters also valued other spots for their amenities and scenic views near Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Space Force Base.  Florida Today

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Melbourne Police said that 74-year-old Neil Allen Goodwin died after his scooter was struck by a 2004 Toyota driven by 88-year-old Pamela Mary Court at the Sarno Road and Apollo Boulevard intersection around 1:30 p.m.—the investigation is ongoing.  Space Coast Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • Brevard County deputies arrested the owners of Da Sushi on Barnes Boulevard on June 25 after police said the couple hacked seniors’ computers and tricked them into sending thousands of dollars in gift cards which were used to buy a $10,000 golf cart—Wisconsin authorities have linked the scam to multiple victims across the Midwest.  Florida Today
  • The State dropped all charges against Jeff Abramowski yesterday in Judge Kelly McKibben’s courtroom in Viera—he was convicted for a 2002 murder—and family and friends were present at the courthouse.  Florida Today
  • The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:20 p.m. Monday to a 911 call from the 4000 block of Aurantia Road in Mims after a three-year-old boy was accidentally shot—he was flown to a hospital and is in stable condition as investigators collect evidence.  Space Coast Daily

  • The U.S. Geological Survey said the shaking felt overnight was not due to an earthquake but came from a Falcon 9 rocket launch at 4:21 a.m. today from Cape Canaveral—confirming that earthquakes are rare in the state.  Florida Today
  • Residents in Florida should know that heavy rains from hurricanes or thunderstorms can cause flash floods like those seen in Texas + the National Weather Service issues flash flood warnings only when there is an immediate threat to life, so residents are urged to keep Wireless Emergency Alerts active.  Florida Today
