  • Melbourne Orlando International Airport announced that Space Coast Honor Flight will use the airport for three missions on September 6, October 11 and November 8 — each flight carrying 50 veterans, 50 guardians and 12 staff — and waived all fees to reduce the mission time from 24 hours to 18 hours.  Space Coast Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • David Barber, accused of kidnapping and murdering 72-year-old Jessie Kirk, filed a motion on May 29 to drop the death penalty, arguing that media coverage of his alleged manifesto—detailing a checklist and buy list—has tainted the jury pool.  FOX 35 Orlando

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three FIRST Robotics teams — Pink Team, Team Voltage, and Team 801 Horsepower — represented Brevard County at the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas. Pink Team earned top honors with the FIRST Impact Award and Woodie Flowers Finalist Award, Team Voltage won the Industrial Design Award, and Team 801 Horsepower received the Engineering Inspiration Award and Innovation in Control Award while placing 21st, 45th, and 34th respectively.  Space Coast Daily

  • Florida homeowners are urged to review their insurance policies before hurricane season starts Sunday, June 1 and to record the condition of their property with photos or videos (including key items) to help secure a better payout if damage occurs.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida lawmakers have delayed the usual hurricane supplies tax holiday due to a budget dispute while federal cuts have reduced critical staff at NOAA and FEMA. Gov. DeSantis said the state will work to coordinate resources for hurricane season starting June 1, but residents worry (items like batteries, radios, and tarps) (may not be as affordable if the tax break remains postponed).  Florida Today
  • NASA powered on the Orion crew module’s key systems at Kennedy Space Center—this milestone is part of a summer testing series that will include checks on displays, pressure, and audio systems before the modules are assembled in 2026. Technicians will continue evaluating both the crew and service modules to help ensure the spacecraft can support the upcoming Moon mission.  Space Coast Daily
  • The Brevard County Sheriff's Office released a video titled '10-94 With Brevard County Deputies and Our Public Safety Partners!!' that shows how deputies and fire rescue work together while encouraging locals to explore public safety careers—an effort linked to the upcoming Public Safety Career Fair on June 5th.  Space Coast Daily
