EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cape View Elementary School in Cape Canaveral closed today due to dwindling enrollment + principal Melissa Long and teachers guided students through a bubble tunnel as they lowered the school flag for a final farewell.  Florida Today
  • Merritt Island High School held its commencement for the Class of '26 May 22 at Mustang Stadium, where graduates celebrated under warm evening skies. Graham Duncan Lyle took the stage despite injuries from a vehicle crash, and speakers Sarah Niazi and Jenna Burke honored the milestone with inspiring addresses.  Florida Today
  • Melbourne Central Catholic High School held its 62nd commencement ceremony at Hustler Stadium, where 105 students from the Class of 2026 celebrated finishing their studies.  Florida Today

  • Florida Fish and Wildlife modified regulations so Brevard anglers can catch red snapper in state waters under the two-fish and 20-inch rule even as a federal judge halted the expanded season in federal waters ahead of Memorial Day weekend; the change took effect May 21.  Space Coast Daily
  • UF/IFAS experts say lovebugs are a harmless seasonal insect nuisance that appears in bursts along highways and grassy areas in spring and late summer — and they help recycle nutrients from dead plants.  Hometown News
