  • Brevard Zoo in Melbourne will debut its Bold Murals exhibition featuring 13 Florida-based artists painting large-scale murals live from May 24 to May 26 on Memorial Day weekend — an event included with general admission.   • On May 20, Brevard County commissioners approved $20,000 in cultural grants for three organizations — the National Kidney Foundation Richard Salick Pro-Am Surf Festival, Space Coast Art Festival and Surfside Playhouse — after removing funding for Pridefest from the proposal; each group will receive about $6,667 from tourist development tax revenues.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife officials in Brevard County report increased sightings of the non-native Peter's rock agama, a lizard from West Africa that escaped or was released as a pet+ and now poses a risk to local species through competition and predation. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises residents to report these sightings and allows landowners to remove the lizards from their property without a permit.  Hometown News
