GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Brevard County will decide this November whether to renew the Save Our Indian River Lagoon tax, costing about $40 per year to fund dredging, septic-to-sewer projects and improved sewage treatment—benefits that boost recreational fishing, boating and tourism. Proponents claim each dollar spent returns $24 to the economy.  Florida Today
  • U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos held a press conference today at Port Canaveral to announce a $20.21 million federal grant for a $37 million upgrade of North Cargo Berths 1 + 2; construction is set to begin in early 2027.  Space Coast Daily
  • Social Security's trust fund is projected to run out by 2032 if no changes are made, which could lead to a 28% cut in monthly benefits starting in 2033 (a change that would affect Palm Bay households).
