  • G&G Roofing, a contractor serving the area for over 20 years, is under new ownership by local entrepreneur David Flickinger—he now serves as CEO.   • A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40 on May 17 at 8:32 p.m. carrying 60 Starlink satellites, and its bright contrail produced a 'jellyfish effect' — a glow seen over darkened skies along the Treasure Coast — that local onlookers captured on camera.  Florida Today
  • Forever 21 closed all 23 Florida stores and many of its 354 U.S. locations by May 1 after filing for bankruptcy, and it stopped accepting gift cards and refunds on April 15—its challenges stemmed from inflation, reduced spending and tough overseas competition.  Florida Today

  • An Orlando man was arrested after he allegedly hit an 80-year-old parking enforcement worker in Cocoa Beach on May 3 during an argument over a parking ticket—officials charged him with battery and burglary with battery and booked him into Brevard County Jail.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • State Attorney William Scheiner said his office will seek the death penalty for David Barber— a 35-year-old former corrections deputy charged with kidnapping and murdering a 72-year-old Titusville socialite named Jessie Kirk whose burned body was found near Haulover Canal after she was reported missing on March 4.  Florida Today

  • A Florida Tech professor is working with NASA at Kennedy Space Center to test a new control room designed for the upcoming IPEx mission that will monitor a lunar rover. The 588 sq ft room features individual workstations and break areas for 13-hour shifts with two-hour rotations—ensuring operators stay alert during long monitoring periods.  Florida Today
