  • SpaceX launched 28 Starlink internet satellites from Cape Canaveral on May 1 at 9:51 p.m.—the Falcon 9 booster, in its 18th flight, later landed on a drone ship in the Atlantic. The next Starlink mission is scheduled for no earlier than May 4.  Florida Today
  • Melbourne Orlando International Airport is expanding its parking to ease travel for passengers. Construction along NASA Boulevard is nearing phase 1 completion with 119 additional spaces expected by the end of May — further improvements will follow in later phases.  Space Coast Daily
  • Port Canaveral is investing $500 million in landside and waterside improvements that will expand cruise terminals, update cargo berths, and refurbish Jetty Park; projects like CT1 upgrades and CT-5 expansion will begin soon—efforts designed to boost capacity and support trade.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At least two Brevard teachers were reprimanded on April 30 for using students' chosen names without parental permission, a former board member, Jennifer Jenkins, said. Brevard Public Schools explained that HR is required by Florida law to investigate complaints + a teacher from Florida Virtual School reported similar reviews.  Florida Today

  • Mayor Rob Medina shared his May message today, honoring fallen officers from the April 23 memorial and welcoming new City Manager Matthew Morton—whose 25 years of experience will guide Palm Bay in future projects. He also warned residents to follow the burn ban as Palm Bay Fire Rescue combats brush fires and outlined upcoming events like Teacher Appreciation Week, National Police Week and Armed Forces Day.  Space Coast Daily
