- ➤ Palm Bay Fire-Rescue said a large vegetation fire that burned a 30-40 foot pile of vegetation on April 21 is contained but still smoldering near St. Johns Heritage Parkway and Babcock Street. Fire crews will continue to monitor the area as the debris burns off over the next several days. Florida Today

- ➤ At a county commission meeting on April 22, officials voted to study a fire assessment that could raise homeowners’ taxes by up to 37%—a move aimed at funding 90 vacant firefighter positions and wage increases. - ➤ Due to ongoing dry weather and a high wildfire risk, Brevard County has put in place an open burning ban that covers bonfires, campfires, trash burning and other incineration—this automatic ban does not apply to state-permitted burns, barbecue grills or authorized public fireworks displays. - ➤ Orlando Health agreed to give $10 million over seven years to local health providers to help cover extra costs after Rockledge Hospital closed on April 22; five local groups shared an initial $3.05 million grant to meet urgent needs.
