- ➤ The Brevard school board voted 4-1 not to renew Satellite High School teacher Melissa Calhoun's contract after she used a student's preferred name without parental consent—supporters protested vocally and caused two recesses during Tuesday night’s meeting. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ Palm Bay Fire-Rescue said a large vegetation fire that burned a 30-40 foot pile of vegetation on April 21 is contained but still smoldering near St. Johns Heritage Parkway and Babcock Street. - ➤ At a county commission meeting on April 22, officials voted to study a fire assessment that could raise homeowners’ taxes by up to 37%—a move aimed at funding 90 vacant firefighter positions and wage increases.
