  • Palm Bay Police arrested Broward County suspect Vital Joseph on April 12 at 7:45 p.m. near Cumberland Farms — his vehicle was flagged by the FLOCK camera system — and he now faces charges for 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Murder and Burglary with Battery.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saturn Elementary teacher Karly Anderson was removed from her classroom after school officials watched a police body camera video from a January house party that showed her swearing and acting out while she was allegedly drunk — the state attorney cleared her of felony charges — and an internal investigation is now underway.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alligator mating season is now and has made the animals more active, which means people may see them more often in outdoor areas. Mark McHugh, president and CEO of Gatorland, said residents should follow safety tips (such as avoiding swimming in waters that may house alligators) and keep pets away from water (like pools and ponds) to prevent dangerous encounters.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed bills HB 575 and HB 549 to change all state laws and public school textbooks from Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America—making Florida the first state to adopt the new name. The new name will be used in official documents and updated instructional materials starting July 1—allowing time for the transition.  Florida Today
  • The Brevard County Commission held a budget workshop meeting Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Viera — county departments from Natural Resources to Library Services presented updates while county officials shared routine reports.  Space Coast Daily
