  • A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando after suffering a suspected shark bite near the Cocoa Beach Causeway at 12:34 p.m. on Sunday—Brevard County officials are investigating the incident.  Space Coast Daily
  • A 12-year-old boy was airlifted from Cocoa Beach to a trauma center on Sunday, April 13th after suffering a suspected marine animal bite (officials have not confirmed it was a shark) and his condition remains under investigation.  FOX 35 Orlando

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 12 a.m. EDT and sent 27 Starlink satellites into orbit for its Starlink 6-73 mission. The booster landed on the drone ship Just Read the Instructions—marking its record 27th successful touchdown.  Florida Today

CRIME NEWS

  • A 30-year-old FedEx employee was arrested after police found he faked a shooting in a company parking lot in March to win a female coworker's sympathy—surveillance footage and evidence from his truck linked him to the act and he now faces charges for tampering with evidence, discharging a firearm in public and filing a false report.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Brevard teacher lost her job for using a student's preferred name without parental consent, which violated state law. The AP English teacher at Satellite High School had her contract not renewed and could see her certification questioned as a petition with more than 22,800 signatures and student rallies showed strong support for her.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Earlier this month a Brown Pelican was rescued near the Indian River Lagoon in Palm Bay and taken to Florida Wildlife Hospital—veterinary staff removed a huge fish hook from its stomach without surgery after securing an extended metal leader line to its beak.  Space Coast Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brevard County high schools have a busy sports week with district baseball, tennis, lacrosse and softball games planned; today, teams begin with baseball matchups at 6 p.m. and remaining tournaments and championships are scheduled from April 15 to April 18—covering multiple sports.  Florida Today
