  • A March madness style wing bracket is live as 16 restaurants and food trucks in Brevard County compete for the title of best wings. Voters can cast ballots today + round-one results will be shared on March 13.  Florida Today

BUSINESS NEWS

  • At 12:19 a.m. today, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40 carrying the EchoStar XXV satellite to provide broadcast services for DISH. The next Falcon 9 launch will occur Thurs., Mar. 12 and send Starlink 10-48 satellites on a northeast trajectory.  Florida Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Space Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera on March 20 and 21, starting at 5 p.m. each evening with balloon rides, laser shows, and balloon glow. Tickets range from $10 to $45 and are available online.  Space Coast Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Florida gas prices rank among the nation’s highest with an average of $3.630 per gallon, marking a 74-cent jump since March 2 and placing prices 10 cents above the national average.  Florida Today
  • Florida gas prices jumped 61 cents per gallon over the past week to an average of $3.494, and experts predict they may reach between $4.50 and $5 by the end of March; Palm Bay drivers are advised to check gas apps (data from AAA).  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brevard's school board will review changes to its campus demonstration policy today (after its 9 a.m. meeting) amid student walkouts in response to immigration officers' actions, and board members will also consider new emergency procedures for handling disorder.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Palm Bay Utilities will modify its water treatment process from March 16 to April 13 for free chlorine maintenance (which may temporarily change water taste, odor, or color) to remove microbial buildup. Residents using home dialysis or keeping pets should follow city guidelines.  Space Coast Daily
  • NASA will hold a briefing on Artemis II progress Thursday, March 12 at 3 p.m. EDT at Kennedy Space Center (near Palm Bay). The update follows a readiness review and notes the SLS rocket may roll to the pad later this month for a possible April launch window.  Space Coast Daily

  • Bayside High's girls basketball team is set to play Bartram Trail in its first state semifinal on Thursday, March 12 at the University of North Florida. The Bears (with an 11-game win streak) earned their spot (after beating top-seeded Bloomingdale).  Florida Today
  • PuroClean of Melbourne announced the nominees for its Girls Athlete of the Week program for the week of March 2 — 7. The announcement honored local student athletes for their sports skills.  Florida Today
