  • SpaceX will launch its Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral on Monday, March 9, carrying the EchoStar XXV satellite for DISH on a rare due east trajectory (launch window from 11:14 p.m. to 1:49 a.m. Tuesday).  Florida Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Thursday, Florida's fuel prices saw a modest rise (regular gasoline increased 5.1 cents per gallon while diesel rose 13.1 cents) at stations across the state. Analysts say if the Iran conflict continues, diesel prices may climb further (potentially affecting transport and grocery costs).  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In Brevard County, schools will pause classes for spring break from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27 while other Florida districts schedule their breaks at different times.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hummingbirds are starting their spring migration to Florida as some ruby-throated birds are already seen, and residents can attract them by planting tubular, colorful flowers (hibiscus and coral honeysuckle are recommended) or putting out feeders; males arrive in March and females follow about a week later.  Florida Today

  • Clocks will spring forward this weekend as daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Mar. 8 — Palm Bay residents should plan for darker mornings affecting school children and commuters. Lawmakers remain divided on making the change permanent.  Florida Today

  • Caladium bulbs are now available at local garden centers as spring arrives, offering options like Florida Blizzard, Moonlight, and Cardinal to add tropical color to gardens; master gardener coordinator Sally Scalera advises planting them where pets and children cannot reach them (all parts are poisonous).  Florida Today

  • Coach Lou Holtz, a revered college football coach and Hall of Famer, died peacefully on March 4 in Orlando at age 89 (he transformed losing teams into champions over five decades).  Space Coast Daily
