EDUCATION NEWS

  • Following a Feb. 24 meeting, the Brevard school board discussed plans to publicly smash confiscated vapes to deter student vaping after Melbourne High closed four bathrooms due to damage, and district staff will propose further anti-vaping measures.  Florida Today
  • Palm Bay Magnet High School will celebrate its 50th anniversary on March 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the school stadium with a Big 50th Bash — featuring games, prizes, local vendors, and displays that honor its rich legacy and future promise.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A full lunar eclipse is visible today in Palm Bay as the full moon turns red or orange when Earth's shadow moves across it, with the change beginning at 3:44 a.m. and reaching totality at 6:33 a.m.  Florida Today

  • A Powerball ticket sold in Arkansas won an estimated $249 million jackpot in the March 2 drawing + a ticket from Puerto Rico won $2 million with the Power Play; no winning ticket was sold in Florida this time.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida law allows drivers to turn right on red after a complete stop if no sign forbids it & if the intersection is clear, while left turns on red are only allowed when turning from one one-way street onto another or when the light blinks red. Drivers should check local signs at busy intersections and school zones.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Women of the Space Coast, a nonprofit supporting Brevard women's mental health, will host Runway to Resilience: A Thrift Fashion Show Experience on April 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Center for Collaboration, 1100 Rockledge Blvd, US-1, Rockledge to highlight fashion, finances and confidence.  Florida Today
  • Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 8 when clocks jump forward from 2 a.m., and residents are urged to shift sleep and pet feeding times from Wednesday, March 4 to reduce health and driving risks (according to sleep experts).  Florida Today

  • Holy Trinity and Bayside girls basketball teams from Brevard County are in the state semifinals. Holy Trinity will face Evangelical Christian on March 6 at 1:00 p.m. at CSI Companies Court at UNF Arena while Bayside meets Bartram Trail on March 12 at 3:00 p.m. at the same venue.  Space Coast Daily
