COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch 29 Starlink satellites from Launch complex 40 in Cape Canaveral tonight. Live coverage will start 90 minutes before liftoff at 9:04 p.m. ET.  Florida Today
  • Florida residents will see part of the total lunar eclipse on March 3 as the moon rises early with totality at 6:33 a.m., but much of the eclipse will be missed due to sunrise & a partial lunar eclipse will occur on Aug. 27-28 with 96% coverage in the area.  Florida Today
  • Residents in Palm Bay will move the clocks forward by one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8 to begin daylight saving time, losing an hour of sleep. Although mornings will be darker, days will get longer until the summer solstice on June 21.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UF/IFAS Extension (Brevard County) advises residents today to attract native bees by planting clusters of local blooms with a center of bare soil for ground-nesting bees while reducing pesticide use to boost pollination.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Senate passed a bill on Feb. 19 that lets high school coaches spend up to $15,000 of personal funds on student-athlete welfare. The measure, named after NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, awaits House approval and the governor's signature.  Florida Today
