  • The Palm Bay Police Department honored longtime volunteer Barbara Squeglia as Volunteer of the Year today by recognizing her work at the front desk, in the CAR-Fit Program, and as leader of the annual Senior Santa project for seniors. BUSINESS NEWS

  • L3Harris Technologies is developing the Red Wolf cruise missile and Sky Warden military plane using a modified crop duster as a low-cost air platform. The effort (supported by an initial contract for up to 75 planes and potential funding of $3 billion) was shown off during recent tests.  Florida Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 28, the Boots, Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Music Fest is scheduled to take place at the Merritt Island Veterans Amphitheater. The festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. and offers live music, free beer + bourbon samplings, barbecue, line dancing, and a Best Dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl Contest.  Space Coast Daily
  • This weekend, enjoy multiple events including a sci-fi concert at Satellite High Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 14; a Blues Brothers tribute at Merritt Island Moose Lodge, live theater in Melbourne, Cocoa and Titusville through Feb. 22, and family tea and historic open houses.  Florida Today

  • Eastern Florida State College hosted a Give Kids a Smile event that gave free dental care to children, and the school will soon expand its dental program on campus. The plan will boost access to oral health services for local students.  Florida Today

  • USA TODAY food journalists picked their top Restaurants of the Year on Feb. 11 and critics say Umami Restaurant & Sushi Bar (971 E Eau Gallie Blvd in Indian Harbour Beach and West Melbourne) earned praise for its inventive Japanese dishes and warm service though it was not included.  Florida Today

  • This week, Edgewood beat West Shore 3-1 in Region 2-2A girls soccer, advancing to face King's Academy at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 in West Palm Beach (Wildcats ended their run at 13-3-1). Edgewood boys tennis won 7-0 over Titusville.  Florida Today
