  • On March 3, the only total lunar eclipse of 2026 will be partly visible from Palm Bay as the Earth’s shadow appears at 3:44 a.m. (ET), though only the western Panhandle sees totality from 6:04 to 7:02 a.m. (ET).  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rescue workers from Brevard County Fire Rescue & Florida Fish and Wildlife rescued a manatee trapped in a storm drain on Feb. 10 in Melbourne Beach. Heavy equipment cut through concrete to free the animal, which was then sent to SeaWorld for evaluation.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that Florida will observe Presidents Day as an extra state holiday on Monday, Feb. 16 to mark America's 250th anniversary, with state offices, banks, and post offices closed + several counties suspending school. Retailers will mostly remain open.  Florida Today
  • SpaceX and NASA are targeting Feb. 12 at 5:38 a.m. ET for the Crew-12 launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (SLC-40). The four-member crew will head to the International Space Station to conduct research that will help prepare for human exploration beyond low-Earth orbit.  Space Coast Daily

  • PuroClean of Melbourne announced the Boys Athlete of the Week nominees (Feb. 2-7) to honor local athletes and highlight community sports talent.  Florida Today
  • Brevard County FHSAA announced basketball playoff brackets featuring ten girls teams and seven boys teams on Feb. 13—14 at local venues. Holy Trinity girls topped the Region 2—2A bracket and Palm Bay is set to host first round games in the Region 2—4A boys bracket.  Florida Today
