  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared Washington's birthday a state holiday on Monday, Feb. 16, giving residents a three-day weekend; most schools + state offices will be closed in observance.  Florida Today
  • The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will host a hiring event on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1751 Huntington Ln in Rockledge where job seekers can learn about 911 dispatcher and telecommunicator roles and meet Diesel (the comfort dog).  Space Coast Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida’s Department of Health today tested eight bread products sold in local stores, finding glyphosate in six of them — with the highest levels in Sara Lee Honey Wheat and Nature’s Own Butter Bread and no traces in two brands. Officials say the screening will help inform ongoing food safety checks.  Florida Today
  • Palm Bay pet owners are advised to watch for signs like scooting and licking that may indicate discomfort from anal gland issues — a condition affecting about one in ten dogs. A vet-recommended daily treat with pumpkin, probiotics and omega fatty acids can support healthy digestion and ease discomfort.  Florida Today
