- ➤ Alligators in local waters reduce feeding when temperatures drop below 70 and become dormant under 55; if water freezes they lift their snouts to breathe (a behavior known as snorkeling), experts from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission explained. Florida Today
- ➤ The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says alligators in Florida use snorkeling to get air when water freezes and bask for warmth as many counties remain under freeze warnings. The reptiles become dormant below 55 degrees and are most active between 82 and 92 degrees in 67 counties. Florida Today
